Fencing has long been anathema to most conservationists, but Packer said it offers the best hope for saving iconic African wildlife, an undertaking that will require sweeping measures rather than piecemeal efforts.

Does large scale fencing not just supply large scale snaring?! Have these wonderful researchers actually lived in Africa.. lived in the bush? I’ve never known of any fence to stop elephants. And I’ve also seen buck and other small creatures snare themselves in fences, in their pannic to break through. Is there no other way?
